Pre-Ballet Level

Janice Barringer’s Pre-Ballet is the second level in her Ballet Technique, designed for children aged 7–9 who are ready for focused, structured ballet training.

While this level is called Pre-Ballet, it is not intended for preschoolers. Instead, it serves as a formal preparation for students aged 7–9 who are ready to begin serious study in classical ballet. At this stage, students should demonstrate the ability to focus, follow structured instruction, and possess the physical maturity to handle foundational ballet training.

A year or two of school or other dance experience often helps young dancers develop essential classroom skills—such as maintaining formations, following direction, and demonstrating respect and discipline. Once those skills are established and the desire to learn ballet is present, students are well-suited for the Pre-Ballet level.

Each exercise in this syllabus is designed to strengthen alignment, introduce turnout with control, and develop musical sensitivity. The piano compositions guide dancers through graceful movement phrases that encourage both artistry and discipline.

Three-Disc Set Includes:

  • Disc 1: 33 original piano tracks composed for the Introduction to Ballet syllabus
  • Disc 2: 33 piano tracks with clear vocal instruction by Janice Barringer
  • Disc 3: Technique notes for teacher reference and standard-format audio files
