Grade 4 Ballet Technique

Grade 4 Ballet Technique is the ninth and final level of Janice Barringer’s Ballet Technique and is designed for advanced students ready to meet the highest technical and artistic demands of the syllabus. This level represents the culmination of the dancer’s training within the program, integrating strength, control, endurance, and expressive musicality.

The Grade 4 barre reflects the expectations of a full advanced class. Dancers perform traditional pliés accompanied by a variety of cambrés, and tendu and dégagé combinations are carried into expressive épaulement. More sophisticated vocabulary is introduced, including pas de cheval, flic flac, grand rond de jambe en l’air, ballonné, ballotté, entrechats, and battu work.

Center practice requires refined control, particularly in the adage, which emphasizes balance, sustained lines, and fluid transitions. Pirouette sequences expand to include a range of advanced turning combinations. Petit allegro becomes intricate and quick, challenging the dancer’s clarity, speed, and articulation.

Advanced turning elements are also included: fouettés and traveling fouettés for girls, and turns in second and tours en l’air for boys. Steps of elevation grow broader and more demanding with various forms of sissonne, coupé jeté en tournant, and a grand allegro that incorporates cabrioles and grand jeté with développé.

This three-disc music collection provides teachers with the complete musical framework for presenting a full advanced-level class, including original piano compositions, vocal instruction, and teacher reference materials.

Three-Disc Collection Includes:

  • Disc 1: 37 original piano tracks composed for the Introduction to Ballet syllabus
  • Disc 2: 37 piano tracks with clear vocal instruction by Janice Barringer
  • Disc 3: Technique notes for teacher reference and standard-format audio files
