Grade 3 Ballet Technique

Grade 3 is the seventh level of Janice Barringer’s Ballet Technique and is designed for dancers ages 13–15 who are ready for a solid intermediate challenge. This level takes on the structure and pacing of a traditional ballet class, strengthening technical control, musical phrasing, and classical artistry.

At the barre, students advance into more complex exercises including battement soutenu and fondu en relevé, longer and more intricate rond de jambe combinations, double frappé, faster petit battement, battement tendu pour batterie, tombé coupé, rond de jambe en l’air, penché arabesque, pas de bourrée en tournant, and a variety of sissonnes. Grande battement jeté pointé, balançoire, and introductory beating exercises support developing speed, clarity, and ballon.

Center practice includes a full adage with développé, expanded turns (including pirouette, soutenu, and piqué turns en dehors and en dedans), and intermediate petit and grand allegro. Students also explore larger traveling jumps and leaps such as grand jeté and grand jeté en tournant, building strength and stamina within musical, well-structured combinations.

This instructional DVD provides clear demonstrations of each exercise along with Janice Barringer’s detailed explanations, giving teachers a reliable tool for guiding intermediate dancers toward greater precision and artistry.
