Grade 2 to 3 Transition Class

The Grade 2 to 3 Transition Class is the sixth level of Janice Barringer’s Ballet Technique and is designed for dancers ages 11–13 who are ready to move beyond the Grade 2 syllabus but require a thoughtful bridge before entering the more demanding Grade 3 work.

This interim level reinforces essential Grade 2 skills while introducing the added strength, coordination, and technical refinement needed for solid intermediate training. Exercises progress in complexity, with quicker battement dégagé, soutenu and fondu performed en relevé, a more challenging adage, and the introduction of pirouette en dedans beginning with half-turns. Throughout the level, dancers strengthen placement, sharpen musicality, and refine articulation in preparation for the full Grade 3 syllabus.

This video features clear demonstrations of each exercise paired with Janice Barringer’s detailed teaching notes, giving instructors a structured, reliable guide for helping students transition smoothly into higher-level classical work.

Video Playtime: 1 hr, 15 min.

Note: The music heard in the video appears only as part of the instructional demonstration. A separate classroom-ready music recording is available as its own MusicWorks product.
