Al Gilbert Tap Technique – Grade 9

This is the ORIGINAL Al Gilbert Grade 9 Tap Technique, the culminating level of his complete tap syllabus and his most advanced work. Designed for the professional-level tap dancer, Grade 9 demands exceptional speed, control, stamina, and rhythmic command.

This level concentrates on fast, close-to-the-floor precision, multiple turns, and dynamic leap combinations that test both technical strength and musical sophistication. Dancers are challenged to execute extended center-floor sequences with clarity, power, and consistency.

Grade 9 begins with an extensive center-floor warm-up, followed by ten advanced long-center and turning exercises, including variations in flaps and slaps, progression on the double pullback time step, and bomber-shay combinations with swap wings. Each sequence reinforces refined articulation, endurance, and professional-level performance quality.

This level represents the highest achievement within the Al Gilbert Tap Technique system — a true capstone for serious tap dancers.\
