Danceography on Lyrical, Vol. 7 by Darryl Retter
Danceography on Lyrical, Vol. 7 by Darryl Retter is a collection of three recital-ready lyrical dances for students ranging from low intermediate to advanced dancers, complete with choreography videos, music, choreography notes, and a teaching system designed to connect technique training directly to recital choreography.
Each routine has been developed for the dance studio and recital stage, giving teachers expressive choreography with meaningful themes that can be built into the season with purpose.
Progression Connection
What makes Danceography different is Progression Connection.
Each dance includes 10 across-the-floor progressions built directly from movement found in the corresponding choreography. Teachers can introduce these combinations during the technique-focused part of the dance year, giving students time to develop the movement vocabulary, musicality, coordination, and performance qualities they will later use in the recital dance.
When recital choreography begins, the movement is no longer completely new—the dancers have already been working with important elements of it in class. With three dances included, Danceography on Lyrical, Vol. 7 provides 30 Progression Connection across-the-floor exercises.
Dances Included
The Journey – Lyrical | Ages 9–11
A gentle lyrical piece with a relaxed groove, smooth vocals, and a message about appreciating the journey rather than focusing only on the destination. The choreography gives young dancers an opportunity to develop musicality, movement quality, and expressive performance while connecting with an encouraging, age-appropriate theme.
Running time: 2:50
Vision of Hope – Intermediate Lyrical | Ages 12–14
An uplifting ensemble-style song featuring the voices of ten young singers ages 12–16. The message looks toward the next generation with hope for a better future, giving dancers meaningful material for emotional connection and storytelling. The choreography provides intermediate lyrical dancers with a strong balance of technical challenge and expressive movement.
Running time: 2:44
Just for One Day – Advanced Lyrical
A dramatic lyrical piece driven by powerful orchestral accents and a message about courage, curiosity, and embracing new experiences even when they feel uncertain. Originally developed around the idea of carpe diem—“seize the day”—the choreography gives advanced dancers challenging material with opportunities for dynamic movement, musical interpretation, and mature performance quality.
Running time: 3:00

Why Teachers Love Danceography
Danceography gives teachers more than finished recital choreography. It creates a bridge between technique class and recital preparation.
Instead of waiting until choreography season to introduce all of the movement, teachers can use the Progression Connection exercises throughout their technique training. Students build familiarity with the material over time, and teachers gain a practical way to make across-the-floor work directly relevant to the choreography they plan to teach later in the year.
The result is a collection that supports the entire teaching process—from developing dancers in class to preparing polished choreography for the recital stage.
