Danceography on Lyrical, Vol. 4 by Darryl Retter
Danceography on Lyrical, Vol. 4 by Darryl Retter is a collection of three recital-ready lyrical dances for students ranging from low intermediate to advanced dancers, complete with choreography videos, music, choreography notes, and a teaching system designed to connect technique training directly to recital choreography.
Each routine has been developed for the dance studio and recital stage, giving teachers expressive choreography with meaningful themes that can be built into the season with purpose.
Progression Connection
What makes Danceography different is Progression Connection.
Each dance includes 10 across-the-floor progressions built directly from movement found in the corresponding choreography. Teachers can introduce these combinations during the technique-focused part of the dance year, giving students time to develop the movement vocabulary, musicality, coordination, and performance qualities they will later use in the recital dance.
When recital choreography begins, the movement is no longer completely new—the dancers have already been working with important elements of it in class. With three dances included, Danceography on Lyrical, Vol. 4 provides 30 Progression Connection across-the-floor exercises.
Dances Included
Wonderful World – Low Intermediate Lyrical | Ages 9-11
A fresh lyrical interpretation of a timeless song, reimagined with a contemporary pop-ballad groove. The familiar musical theme gives young dancers an accessible starting point while the choreography encourages connected movement, musicality, expression, and confident performance.
Running time: 2:59
Moment – Intermediate Lyrical | Ages 12–14
A rock-ballad-style lyrical dance built around gratitude and finding something positive even when life does not go as planned. The choreography gives dancers the opportunity to explore emotional connection, musical phrasing, and mature performance while communicating an uplifting message.
Running time: 2:45
Look A Little Closer – Advanced Lyrical
An advanced lyrical dance with a pop-rock groove and a story told through the interaction between a female vocalist and an older storyteller. The message centers on searching for contentment and ultimately discovering that what we need may already be within us. The choreography challenges advanced dancers with musical interpretation, expressive storytelling, control, and mature performance quality.
Running time: 3:12

Why Teachers Love Danceography
Danceography gives teachers more than finished recital choreography. It creates a bridge between technique class and recital preparation.
Instead of waiting until choreography season to introduce all of the movement, teachers can use the Progression Connection exercises throughout their technique training. Students build familiarity with the material over time, and teachers gain a practical way to make across-the-floor work directly relevant to the choreography they plan to teach later in the year.
The result is a collection that supports the entire teaching process—from developing dancers in class to preparing polished choreography for the recital stage.
