Grade 1 to 2 Transition Class

The Grade 1 to 2 Transition Class is the fourth level of Janice Barringer’s Ballet Technique and is designed for students ages 9–11. This essential interim level bridges the gap between Grade 1 and Grade 2, preparing dancers for the increased strength, coordination, and technical detail required in the next stage of training.

This class reinforces the foundational concepts introduced in Grade 1 while gradually incorporating more complex material. Students continue to refine clean placement, articulate turnout, supported legwork, and controlled extensions, all while developing stronger musical phrasing and movement quality.

With 16 structured exercises spanning barre, center, and across-the-floor progressions, this syllabus provides teachers with a clear, methodical pathway that leads dancers confidently toward the more demanding Grade 2 level.

This instructional video gives teachers clear demonstrations of each exercise along with Janice Barringer’s detailed explanations, ensuring a smooth and well-structured transition into intermediate-level work.

Video Playtime: 1 hr, 14 min.

Note: The music heard in the video appears as part of the instructional demonstration only. A separate classroom-ready music recording is available as its own MusicWorks product.

Video Playtime: 57 min.
