Al Gilbert Tap Technique – Grade 4

This is the ORIGINAL Al Gilbert Grade 4 Tap Technique set to a piano-and-drums soundtrack. Building on the foundation learned in Grade 3, this level is often referred to as “The Breakthrough” level, as the material mastered here propels dancers confidently into the intermediate stage of tap. There are 45 exercises in this level, along with a 2-chorus routine created directly from the exercises.

Grade 4 introduces dancers to more advanced concepts and combinations, including riffs, drawbacks, and turns across the floor. These exercises challenge coordination, strength, and control while encouraging dancers to move with greater clarity and confidence. Thoughtfully structured and progressive, this level supports both teachers and students by breaking down increasingly complex material into clear, achievable steps.
